BEACHES

ANO STAVROS
Built in the Strymonikos gulf, Ano Stavros is located at an altitude of 80m. and a distance of 800m. from the sea.
Being an ideal destination for family getaways, the village is only 81 kilometers from Thessaloniki, while the city of Kavala is also nearby .
HISTORY
Since ancient times, the village created in the area, had the name "Vormiskos". During the Byzantine period, this area was a rest station for travelers to Mount Athos. The name "Stavros" appears since 1705 and is estimated to be related to the ancient "Stagira".In 1931, the area was named Stavros, while with the administrative restructuring of 1942, Ano Stavros was annexed to the Prefecture of Thessaloniki from the Prefecture of Halkidiki, to which it belonged until then.
